LCB encourages applications from ALL passionate young dancers, as we choose a cast who are engaging and enjoy telling a story. We are casting a narrative ballet and need diversity in our characterisation. We do all we can to make the audition an enjoyable day as we know that there will be many first-time audition candidates.

What are we looking for?

At LCB, we’re not just looking for perfect ballet dancers- we’re looking for storytellers! We love dancers with individuality, personality, and a passion for bringing characters to life. Our auditions are positive and welcoming. We can’t wait to meet our next cast of young dancers…

Frequently asked questions

What should I wear to my Audition?

One option for the audition is your favourite leotard with tights or socks, ballet shoes, and your hair in a neat bun or style. Another option is shorts or tights with a leotard or t-shirt and your ballet shoes.
Please DO NOT wear associate programme leotards, pointe shoes, ballet skirts, jewellery or watches.

What level does my child need to be to audition?

There is no minimum level or grade to audition. LCB encourages applications from ALL passionate young dancers, as we choose a cast who are engaging and enjoy telling a story. We are casting a narrative ballet and need diversity in our characterisation.

What will the audition entail?

Dancers will be given an audition registration time. When they arrive they will receive an audition number which will be pinned by an LCB staff member. Dancers then have a fun warm up session before the audition to relax and prepare them. The audition is structured like a ballet class. Usually 4 exercises- A port de bras, centre exercise, jump and corner work. Dancers do not need to prepare anything in advance for the audition. If dancers are successful in the first prelim round and invited back for the recall, they will repeat some of the exercises and also be given a characterisation task, linking to the narrative ballet.

What tips would you give for auditionees?

Artistry is just as important as technique! So try to use your face when you dance. We’re looking for dancers who can show character and bring performances to life through movement. Remember to stretch your legs and toes, and when you jump, use your plié and the whole foot to land softly and with control from your jumps, keeping your heels down. Most importantly, let your personality shine - we want to see you!

How many children get cast in the ballet?

LCB look for 50 dancers to perform in their production company where they will complete eight West End performances with a live orchestra. In addition to this, LCB looks to cast up to 48 dancers to form 4 touring companies, which rehearse for 5 days, then perform over a week in care homes, community centres and special educational needs schools across London. We are also looking for dancers to join our 2026 development programme cohort.

When will I find out the results?

Will I receive feedback?
