Ballet for Boys

Narrative ballets need boys, but boys often drop out because they find themselves alone in a room full of girls and think ‘maybe not’. As a result of that, LCB has developed ‘Ballet for Boys’ - a seven week course for boys only. In 2012, Bennet Gartside who is First Soloist at The Royal Ballet will be teaching boys only classes on Sunday afternoons. The course will provide an opportunity for boys to learn ballet together and to receive personal instruction of the highest quality.

We have noticed that boys advance quickly when the have the opportunity to study with other boys who share their love of dance and many of them go on to dance in the LCB company. Benn has great energy and sense of humour and we are certain our 2012 classes will be fantastic.

"It's rare to have more than one boy in a ballet class of 30. Forming this large male-only group showed them that they're not alone" - Neil Westmoreland, former Ballet for Boys teacher.
